Garda Commissioner urged to attend negotiations in Garda roster dispute

The Garda Commissioner is being called on to urgently come to the negotiating table to settle a dispute over Garda rosters.

Up to 200 members of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors marched to Garda Headquarters and handed in a letter yesterday to Commissioner Drew Harris.

A second AGSI ‘day of action’ will be be held in the next few weeks

Labour justice spokesperson, Aodhán Ó’Ríordáin says the low moral in the force needs intervention by the Commissioner.

“I think the Garda Commissioner needs to negotiate directly with the AGSI.

“I think we have a wider problem of Garda morale within the force. We can see that the GRA are talking about having a special taskforce to deal with assaults on the Gardai.

“We know there’s a recruitment issue, and we know that the numbers are lower than they were three years ago.”
