Gardai examining video footage following death of a man on a stag weekend in Athlone
Gardai are examining video footage, following the death of a man on a stag weekend in Athlone, in County Westmeath.
The 49 year old named locally as Paul Connolly from Edenderry in County Offaly, died after an assault near a taxi rank on Church Street in the early hours of yesterday morning.
A 19 year old man and a man in his 30’s are being questioned this morning, in connection with the incident.
Councillor Robert McDermott from Mr Connolly’s home town of Edenderry says friends and neighbours are shocked and saddened by news of his death.
“He would be very well known and the family is from a well established and well liked family in the town. And yeah, there’ll be a lot of support for his family and our thoughts are definitely my prayers are with the family and his friends.”
