Garretstown Blue Flag status not expected to be revisited this year

Garretstown beach won’t get its Blue Flag status back in 2023.

Cork County Council CEO Tim Lucey told yesterday’s council meeting that while they will write to An Taisce about the issue, he doesn’t expect the decision to be revisited this year.

Garretstown passed on 32 of the 33 criteria, failing to retain the Blue Flag due to a lack of recycling bins at the beach – however an area for the bins has since been identified.

Last week ten Cork beackes were awarded Blue Flags last week, however Garretstown was one of four locations in Munster to lose its status.
