Green Party Councillor Wants Midleton-Youghal Railway Line Reopened
A councillor in the North-East Ward of the city wants the Midleton to Youghal railway line to be reopened.
The last regular scheduled passenger train to Youghal was in 1963.
Work is currently underway to turn this disused section of the closed train-track into a greenway.
But the Echo is reporting today that Councillor Ted Tynan says that reopening the Midleton to Youghal line, even along a single track, would be have significant environmental benefit, and would ease severe daily traffic congestion in Castlemartyr and Killeagh.
Last month, Irish Rail said it would lend its support to County Council’s efforts to open three railway stations in the north of the county, including reopening the old station at Buttevant.
