Harry Potter reunion confirmed
The cast of Harry Potter are set to reunite for a TV special on HBO Max.
Main cast members Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as well as filmmaker Chris Columbus will come together for an in-depth discussion about the movies and how they were created.
“Return to Hogwarts” will air on the 1st January 2022 to mark 20 years of Harry Potter.
The creator of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, will not be taking part in the television special. This comes after the author made controversial statements about the trans community last year.
The announcement of the reunion is exactly 20 years since the US release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Other cast members will be included in the show including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton and Tom Felton.
HBO Max have released a trailer for the once off show, with cast members sharing it on their social media platforms. Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the series of films captioned his post by saying “Is this what school homecoming is like?” while Matt Lewis aka Neville Longbottom said, “This New Year’s Day…we’re putting the band back together.”
The executive producer, Casey Patterson, said: “There’s magic in the air here with this incredible cast, as they all return home to the original sets of Hogwarts, where they began 20 years ago.
“The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, through the making of these incredible films.”
Meanwhile Emma Watson who starred as Hermione Granger shared a lengthy Instagram post promoting reunion and the 20 year anniversary of the films saying Hermione is her “favourite fictional character of all time”.
She goes on to say, “I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful.”
