Hauliers struggle to deal with spiralling fuel costs

Hauliers across the island are struggling to deal with spiralling fuel costs.

Newry-based firm Surefreight has begun placing a fuel surcharge on customers to cover the increases.

Martin McGoldrick, its Commercial Director, says someone is profiting from the crisis because money simply doesn’t disappear:

“The oil price is now currently sitting around $120 per barrel, it’s been there before for a short period in 2011. It’s been higher in 2008, and we’ve never seen the record highs that we have at the pumps today, the question that has to be asked is, ‘what’s being done to regulate the oil market and what’s driving the price up?’.”
