HSE says more than 300 people in hospital with Covid are there because of the virus

More than 300 people in hospital with Covid are there because of the virus, says the HSE.

606 patients in total are in hospitals with Covid today – a 33 percent increase on last week.

The INMO has been calling for the mask mandate to be reinstated in some settings to help stop rising numbers and an expected surge later in the summer.

The HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer, Dr Colm Henry, says the number of people with the virus on wards causes an impact:

“Whether or not they’re sick with Covid, the presence in the healthcare system does cause tremendous disruption because the same infection prevention control measures have been put in place to avoid transmission within the hospital setting that puts additional pressure on our hospital system.”
