IFA: All Drivers On Country Roads Need To Be Extra Careful At This Time Of The Year
All drivers on country roads need to be extra careful at this time of the year.
That’s according to a Courtmacsherry farmer and chairman of Munster IFA, Harold Kingston.
The Road Safety Authority and the Irish Farmers Association are appealing to motorists to take extra care as the number of tractors, trailers and other farm machinery using the roads increases during the summer season.
Both organisations also want anyone driving agricultural machinery to always be on the lookout for vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians, to cut back on their speed, not to get distracted and to understand that around every corner could be a neighbouring family or friend out for a walk or cycle.
Speaking to RedFM News, Harold Kingston, says this would allow everyone to enjoy the countryside:
“The key thing is that everybody realises that everybody has the right to be on the road and it is critical that anybody who is driving on the road, especially if you’re not used to driving on roads with tractors, that you give space and you allow for time because it is a busy time.
“So if you’re on a tractor, look out for people who might not be that used to being on the road and giving them space. Work within your limits for speed.
“We hope that everybody gets the chance to enjoy the countryside just as much as we do”.
