INMO says lack of bonuses is another reason why young nurses are leaving Ireland

That’s according to the INMO which wants to see a financial reward or 10 extra days of annual leave given to frontline staff for their efforts during the crisis.

Similar benefits have been granted in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Deputy General Secretary Dave Hughes says staffing levels have been impacted by the pandemic:

“The international recruitment has obviously slowed down because of Covid, and the ability to bring people in from other countries, but the fatigue levels of the HSE is also driving people out. And the way students have been treated for example, during this pandemic. We’re not sure that we’ll be able to keep all this year’s cohort and we really need.”
