INMO to host Annual Delegate Conference

Nurses say the Government must work hard to retain nurses and midwives within the Irish healthcare system.

They will raise the recruitment crisis with the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly at today’s INMO Annual Delegate Conference.

They will also debate an emergency motion on the cost of living and a rent freeze.

INMO Director of Professional Services, Tony Fitzpatrick says the Government must take action on recruitment or nurses will leave the country.

“The indications are that morale is at an all time low.

“They’re extremely over worked in short staffed wards, they don’t believe that the remuneration is adequate or appropriate, therefore it’s necessary that appropriate measures are taken.

“Otherwise we’re going to see an outflow of nurses and midwives out of the Irish healthcare system, and that’s bad for the health care system, it’s bad for patients and it’s also bad for our nurses and midwives.”
