Integration Minister says he’s looking into the use of “floatels” to house asylum seekers

The Integration Minister says he’s looking into the use of “floatels” to house asylum seekers.

Last week it was reported The Port of Cork Company was in talks with the State about introducing on-water accommodation.

Minister Roderic O’Gorman says he’s hopeful the number of new arrivals left without accommodation will reduce in the coming weeks.

He says “floatels” are being examined as a housing option:

“Our department are looking at hotels. I think in the context of the numbers were accommodating 21.000/22,000 Now cross international protection. 84,000 across the Ukraine, we do have to look at all options. And floatels can offer a safe accommodation.”
