Intersport Elverys buy former Roches Stores building

Intersport Elverys have bought the former Roches Stores building on St Patrick’s Street.

The Irish Examiner report that the sports retail chain has snapped up the historic building, which went on the market last August for €20m, however it’s reported that the purchase price will likely be closer to €12m.

The former department store, which is on 1.6 acres, was leased to Debenhams in 2006 before closing in 2020, with the building lying vacant since then.

Intersport Elverys is Ireland’s oldest sports company having been founded in 1847, and employs 700 people in 47 stores, among them stores on Oliver Plunkett Street and at the Kinsale Road retail centre.

It’s believed that a reopening of the front portion of the building will happen later this year with a flagship store for the company, along with a click and collect service.
