Ireland Wins Second Gold Medal At Paralympic Games In Tokyo
Ireland has won its second Gold medal at this year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Jason Smyth from Derry won in the T-13 100 metres this morning.
He ran the race in 10.54 seconds, beating off an Algerian opponent in a photo finish.
It’s his sixth Paralmypic gold medal.
Speaking just before the final, Jason said it had been a hard year:
“Yeah, I mean it’s been tough year, year and a half for everybody, you know so it’s not just sport. So it’s about overcoming challenges that sit in front of here. You know, that’s never going to change in life. So things have been improving. Certainly, you know, in the last couple of weeks I’m running as quick as I have all year. And hopefully, we as a team can continue to be successful and make people at home proud.”
