Irish Coast Guard celebrate 200 years of service

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the Irish Coast Guard.
The search and rescue service, established in 1822, responds to 2,600 call-outs a year, and comprises of 80 full-time staff and one thousand volunteers.
This afternoon Peter Larkin from Greenore Coast Guard was presented with a medal to acknowledge 40 years of service.
He says it can be difficult at times, but there’s an important purpose to what they do.
