Justice Minister launches Serious Consequences campaign

Threatening to share intimate images of another person is now illegal and will be dealt with seriously by Gardai.

The Justice Minister is today launching the Serious Consequences campaign.

Simon Harris says it’s important to get the message across that even threatening to share images will be punished.

“This campaign is of course about victims, but it’s also about potential perpetrators.

“It’s about trying to change culture in Irish society to get to a zero tolerance approach to domestic, sexual, and gender based violence.

“The sharing of an intimate image, or threatening to share an intimate image, can have a devastating impact on a person’s well being.

“It’s in many ways a form of coercive control, it needs to be called out as such, and that’s why the law is very robust, and this awareness campaign is really about driving this message home.”
