Kenny: Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, Has Left Legacy Of Peace

Former Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, has left a legacy of peace and progression, according to a former Taoiseach.

Mr Abe was shot twice while making a speech earlier today and died from his injuries.

Police have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the assassination.

The former Japanese leader visited Ireland in 2013 and worked with then Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, during an Irish trade mission in the same year.

Mr Kenny says Mr Abe was a firm believer in peace:

“His legacy, I think, is a one of a real interest in people and the ability to shift politics. Essentially, he was a person who wanted the world to be at peace; very strongly against the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and admired Ireland is a small country for having been able to contribute to the United Nations Peacekeeping since the day it was founded”.
