Labour Party call for introduction of climate transport ticket
The Labour Party is calling for the introduction of a monthly, flat rate, climate transport ticket to help people make the move to public transport.
It would entitle people across the country to unlimited travel, across all modes of transport, for just nine euro per month.
Labour is urging the Government to consider its implementation in order to encourage more people to leave the car at home.
Party Leader Ivana Bacik says there are significant advantages of operating such a scheme.
“The advantages are twofold. First, reduce costs for people who need to commute.
“Secondly, and just as importantly, to move people out of private cars and thereby reduce emissions.
“We’ve seen significant emission reductions in Germany when they introduced this first on a pilot basis last summer, and that’s why it’s being rolled out nationally in Germany.”
