Large queues at Cork petrol station due to low fuel prices

There are fears petrol station owners will come under further pressure even as fuel prices start to come down.

The average price for petrol and diesel has decreased by about 10c a litre over the past week. but some stations are giving bigger discounts in an effort to give back to customers.

Photos on social media showed large queues for fuel at one Cork station where petrol and diesel were marked down at €1.99 per litre.

Anna Cullen from the AA says while it’s a positive move from the stations, it’s not sustainable in the long term:

“They have their own costs as well and they’re not actually making money from reducing these prices, they’ll probably tell us whether they’re making more money from a cup of coffee or a bar of chocolate. So is it sustainable in the long run? No, not particularly.”
