Limerick’s Dan Morrissey expecting close Cork battle
Limerick’s Dan Morrissey says he can’t wait to lock horns with Cork on Sunday.
The sides go head to head in Croke Park for the All Ireland Final, with Limerick looking for back to back titles while the Rebels are looking for their first Liam McCarthy since 2005.
John Kiely’s side are heavy favourites to retain their crown on Sunday, however Ahane clubman Morrissey told RedFM Sport it’s going to be a tough battle against the Rebels.
“They have great players all over the field, with great skill, great speed.
“We’ve played them underage coming up along, we’ve had great battles with them at senior level over the last few years.
“It’s going to be an intense game, and whoever comes out on top will have to earn it.
Limerick are in their third All Ireland final in four years, and Morrisey says each one is an incredibly special occasion.
“You’re always going to get excited, it’s an All Ireland Final.
“I remember as a kid, my first one was when I was six in 1999, I’ve been to every one of them since then.
“Limerick haven’t been in a whole pile of them, when you’re playing in them yourself for your county it’s a great feeling.
“You do try to block out some of the outside noise in the build up to a match, you don’t want to be too distracted.
“It’s great to see everyone talking about the game, kids in Limerick jerseys, the flags up around the city – you do defintely get excited.
“The last few years have been great. Limerick is such a sporting mad county the people are always full of praise wherever you go.
“You’d be giving out if you went to the shop and nobody was wishing you luck, so it’s a good complaint to have!”
