Live music sector representatives to meet the government
Representatives of the live music and entertainment sector will meet with the Arts Minister this afternoon on the return of concerts and festivals.
The sector has been shut here since March 2020, despite gigs being held in Northern Ireland.
Ahead of the meeting, the government’s being accused of lacking respect to workers in the industry.
Lead singer of the band The Academic, Craig Fitzgerald, says they can play music festivals in the UK, but they want to perform here again.
“It’s just insane to think that we’ll be doing that before we know if people can put on a gig in a pub [here], or if roadies and techs can get back to work.
“It’s just insane that people’s livelihoods are coming back, it’s just not in the country that they’re living in.”
