Locals in Mallow furious after Transport Minister reduces funding for relief road

Locals in Mallow are furious after the Transport Minister reduced funding for a relief road.

That’s according to the Vice Chair of the Mallow Development Partnership after just €100,000 was allocated to advance works on the Mallow Relief Road.

The road would provide a link between Cork and Limerick and the regeneration of North Cork and locals say the infrastructure is vital for Mallow’s economic and business development.

The Mallow Development Partnership say they were shocked to find out that the Midleton-Youghal bypass scheme was allocated €800,000.

Speaking to RedFM News, Vice Chair John McDonnell says Mallow have been waiting for the relief road for decades:

“It won’t solve all the problems but it will solve a lot of them in the sense to take big HGVs and trailers and the rest of it off the main street, which has been clogged for years and years and years, and we’ll take them on this relief road and give some relief to the businesses in Mallow, and the people of Mallow . The relief road is really going to start the process of regenerating mellow.
