Lord Mayor Of Cork Says He Is “Sick To Death” Of Vandalism At Ballincollig Regional Park
The Lord Mayor of Cork says he is “sick to death” of vandalism at Ballincollig Regional Park.
He was reacting to the news that a historic mill has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack in the town’s popular park last night.
Cork City Fire Brigade were called to the scene in the early of this morning.
Garda crime-scene investigators have examined the site for evidence.
It is the second suspected arson attack at the park in recent weeks, when several benches and picnic tables were ruined.
The matter is due to be raised at the City Council’s Joint Policing Committee on Monday.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Colm Kelleher says this is the latest in a number of suspicious fires in the area:
“This is a spate of arson attacks that have been occurring, down the regional park in more recent months. It started with park benches and stuff like that, and now it’s progressively getting worse. I’m sick to death of this, almost on a weekly basis, being presented with vandalism and arson down our beautiful Regional Park. Something has to be done about it. It’s a major issue”.
