Meetings aimed at forming a Government in Northern Ireland underway
Meetings are underway this afternoon aimed at forming a Government in Northern Ireland.
The DUP wants reform of the Northern Ireland protocol before it will re-commit to power sharing.
Political parties are meeting with the Secretary of State Brandon Lewis.
SDLP leader Colum Eastwood says even though his party didn’t get enough seats to be in the Executive, he wants a Government formed:
“What is absolutely clear is that a Government needs to be formed and needs to be formed urgently. So I call on Jeffrey Donaldson to commit to appointing a Deputy First Minister. Right away. The people can’t wait any longer. We have a cost of living crisis. We have a waiting less crisis that’s out of control, and that Government needs to be formed today.”
