Minister For Housing Accused Of Losing Control Of Homeless Situation
The Minister for Housing has been accused of losing control of the homeless situation, after figures revealed single person homelessness has hit 5 thousand for the first time.
The May Homeless Report also reveales the number of children in emergency accommodation has passed 3 thousand.
Sinn Fein’s housing spokesperson Eoin O Broin says despite a full year of increases in homeless levels, the Minister has no plan and no effective response to what is an ever escalating crisis:
“He has had plenty of time to try to address this problem. In fact, it was his actions last year, ending the blanket ban on evictions, that has led to almost a 12 months consecutive increase in homelessness. We have been urging him month after month, as these figures have risen, to take urgent action and yet he has done nothing”.
