Motorists urged to be cautious during status yellow ice warning
The Road Safety Authority is urging road users to be careful when driving this morning.
It comes as a status yellow ice warning is in place around the country until 10am.
Last night saw temperatures fall as low as -4 degrees in parts as sleet and snow slurries fell over Munster.
The RSA is reminding motorists that braking can be difficult on icy stretches of road, to drive slowly and beware of cyclists and pedestrians.
Speaking to RedFM News, Brian Farrell from the RSA says road users should leave extra time for their journeys and be careful on untreated roads or paths.
“In icy conditions the most important thing you have to do is slow down.
“The faster you are going the greater the likelihood you will get into a skid if you have to break suddenly.
“Leave that extra distance so that you can react in time, and give yourself the space to stop the vehicle safely.”
