The majority of complaints to the taxi regulator were related to passengers being overcharged.

A new report from the National Transport Authority found 439 complaints were made in total.

14 complaints were related to cleanliness, such as bad smells and stained back seats.

Jim Waldron of the National Private Hire and Taxi Association says while the complaints are not acceptable, some passengers have contributed:

"If the complaints are in and are upheld, people will be penalized for them. Just to put a little bit of perspective onto that, taxi drivers are dealing with people who do a lot of things in the back of a taxi, they bite their nails, comb their hair, they pick their nose, they pee in the back of your, they vomit or they bring muck from the festivals into the back of your car."
