New uniform for Gardai becomes operational
The Gardai will have a new look from today.
Members of the Force will carry out their duties from now on in a more casual style of uniform.
The new look, during the 100th anniversary year of the founding of the Force, is only the third time a formal change of uniform has taken place.
Sergeant Liam Geraghty of the Garda Press office says, the change has been requested by members of the Force Nationwide.
“Instead of seeing An Garda Siochana out on the beat or driving around in their cars today in their traditional shirt and tie, you’ll see them in more modern blue polo shirts, operational trousers, and also a tone tone soft shell jacket.
“It will have the yellow fluorescent integrated into the jacket, it’s a much more flexible and modern uniform for them to operate in.”
