No plans to expel Russian ambassador – Tanaiste
The Tánaiste has said the Government has no plans to expel the Russian ambassador to Ireland.
Leo Varadkar believes some lines of communication between Dublin and Moscow need to be kept open to assist Irish citizens in Russia.
He’s also said Ireland won’t put a cap on how many Ukrainian refugees are accepted into the country.
Leo Varadkar says the short term feel good from expelling the ambassador would have long term consequences.
“We don’t at the moment plan to expel the Russian ambassador himself. And I totally understand the feelings about this and the emotions and the anger and why people want him to be expelled.
“I understand those feelings because I share them, quite frankly.
“But we need to be able to talk to the Russians and even countries that are at war exchange ambassadors, because you do need to have a channel of communication.”
