Number of employees at meat processing plant in Watergrasshill test positive for Covid-19

A number of employees at Kepak in Watergrasshill have tested positive for Covid-19.

Fermoy Councillor Noel McCarthy says he has spoken to a number of employees who were informed that they have the virus this week following rumours of an outbreak at the meat processing plant.

Meat plants are coming under increased scrutiny amid outbreaks at a number of locations across the country, with trade union SIPTU saying they have had to call on the Health and Safety Authority to investigate some work places to ensure employees are safe.

SIPTU also say most employers are doing everything they can to ensure safe working conditions, however it's almost impossible to control circumstances outside the work place.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Noel McCarthy says Kepak should consider a temporary closure:
