Over a dozen water treatment plants experiencing drought conditions
More than a dozen water treatment plants around the country are currently experiencing drought conditions because of the warm weather.
Uisce Éireann says customers generally won’t have noticed any impact on their water supply.
The utility has been managing supplies by bringing water to reservoirs by tanker.
Areas of Clonakilty have night time water restrictions imposed until Friday from 11pm until 7am, in order to maintain daytime supply
Tom Cuddy, Uisce Éireann’s Head of Asset Operations says 17 water treatment plants are experiencing problems.
“At this stage we have 17 of our supply areas out of a total of over 700 are experiencing losses to the extent that we need to take interventions, such as night time restrictions and pressure reductions and some tankering.
“At the moment people in those areas are not experiencing supply difficulties in their own houses or in their own premises”.
Due to the continued high demand for water, combined with the ongoing low rainfall levels, areas of Clonakilty will again see night-time water restrictions introduced each evening, 11pm until 7am from Tuesday 6th June until Friday 9th June. Visit https://t.co/xNL3dc7pSo for more.
