Poor air quality reported in parts of Cork

Poor air quality has again been recorded for Glanmire and Cork’s northside.

Areas like Ballyphehane and Ballinlough in the southside were also hit by periods of poor air.

The Irish Examiner reports health lobbyists are calling for more stringent rules to combat “toxic” air following what’s being decribed
as a “grim” assessment from environmental chiefs.

Cork’s monitoring systems found poor quality throughout the city and county in recent days.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s annual air quality report found “worrying’ air quality at 52 sites across the country.

The burning of solid fuel in villages, towns and cities is, the biggest contributor.

Poor air quality leads to 1,300 deaths a year in Ireland.
