Pope Francis has offered his offered his “heartfelt condolences” when paying tribute to Glanmire-native Bishop David O’Connell whose funeral mass has just gotten underway.
The 69 year-old was shot dead in his home in Hacienda Heights in LA on Saturday, February 18th.
A man has been charged in connection with his murder.
Bishop O’Connell was a native of Brooklodge in Glanmire and was ordained as a priest at All Hallows College in Dublin.
A Mass of Remembrance will take place at a later date in his home parish of Glounthaune.
