Prices 40 Higher In Ireland Than EU Average
Prices are 40 percent higher in Ireland than the EU average.
Figures from Eurostat show that only Denmark is more expensive, with just clothing and shoes below the average across the bloc.
Housing costs, including energy prices, are 89 percent above average.
Darragh Cassidy from Bonkers.ie, says if childcare costs were included the prices here would be even higher:
“Childcare is absolutely astronomical here. This doesn’t seem to be included in the figures from EuroStat. But if it were, I would imagine it we send our costs through the roof. Listeners will know that the cost of sending maybe one kid to childcare for a month can be anywhere from maybe €800 to over €1000, whereas in some countries that can be free”.
