Primary school teachers show support for this weekends Cost Of Living protest
Primary school teachers are showing their support for Saturday’s Cost Of Living Protest in the city centre.
The Irish National Teachers Organisation is requesting members to attend the protests being staged at five locations across the country this weekend, which includes one in Cork.
The Cost of Living Coalition has agreed to campaign on a number of demands including the protection of incomes, the control of energy costs and a commitment to make housing affordable.
The group say they stand in solidarity with the people that are having to choose between “heating or eating” and say there can be no profiteering from the current price increases.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin was in the city yesterday and he says there are measures in place to ensure there is no profiteering from the cost of living crisis.
Speaking to RedFM News he reassured listeners that further measures will be introduced in the Budget in October:
“First of all, we have taken measures, very significant measures already. We want to target measures in the forthcoming budget for those who need it the most. And we want to try and do it in a way that doesn’t stope inflation further, or rather reduces the pressure on people the cost of living pressure on people which is very, very real.”
