Buses, trains and trams are able to operate at 100% capacity for the first time in almost 18 months from today.

The rise from 75% had been expected early last month, but was delayed due to concerns over the Delta variant.

CEO of the National Transport Authority, Anne Graham, says the increase is needed with the reopening of schools and planned return of office workers later this month:

"At the moment we're operating on average about 55% on 2019 levels.

"We still have capacity available, but there have been times over the summer, particularly on weekend services, that 75% capacity has been reached.

"We now want to be in a position to be able to offer more service and more capacity to passengers as they prepare to return to colleges and their workplaces."
