Record levels of cocaine being seized in Belgium
So much cocaine is being seized in Belgium that the country’s incinerators can’t keep up.
Euronews Journalist, Christopher Pitchers reports ‘cocaine bergs’, like ice bergs, are building up in Belgium’s warehouses.
It is expected customs officers at the Antwerp port will seize 110 tonnes of the drug by the end of the year.
Christopher says no matter how much cocaine authorities seize, supply doesn’t seem to be falling:
“Last year when they did this record seizure of 80 metric tons, the price of cocaine actually on the street value didn’t go down. You would expect the price to increase if they were seizing so much cocaine but in fact it didn’t go down. So yeah, there seems to be a lot on the market.”
