Report Into Incineration Of Babies’ Organs By Cork University Maternity Hospital Expected By Next Friday
A report into the incineration of babies’ organs by Cork University Maternity Hospital is expected to be released by the end of next week.
RedFM News has seen an email sent to families that says the report is due to be given to families by next Friday.
The scandal centres around the incineration of the organs of 18 babies in Belgium at the start of the pandemic.
Families have expressed anger that they will not be given a draft report, after initially being told that they would. They have also voiced frustration over the repeated delays in releasing the report.
Speaking in the Dáil on Thursday Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said the delay in releasing the report is impossible to defend:
“I understand the delay in the completion of this review has been very upsetting, but it’s essential that correct processes are followed to ensure the facts of the case can be established and shared with the families affected. In relation to the human tissue bill, the dignity and respect of the parents who have experienced the loss of a child is of paramount importance, and the Human Tissue Bill is on the priority list of legislation for government”.
