Russia will further cut gas supplies to Europe today

Russia is due to further cut gas supplies to Europe today.

The state energy firm Gazprom is planning to reduce flow through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which is already running at just 40% capacity.

Yesterday, EU nations agreed to reduce their gas use by 15% over the next six months, although Ireland has an exemption.

Sky’s Europe correspondent Adam Parsons says EU states are also looking for other sources of fuel.

“For instance, getting more liquid natural gas from Nigeria. It is pretty open minded about this, but one thing it says for sure, is that Russia is using gas as a political weapon, and that Europe should be ready for the gas stops to be turned off at any moment.”
