SEC under pressure due to shortage of teachers correcting exams

A shortage of teachers correcting Leaving and Junior Cert exams is going to put the State Examinations Commission in a difficult position.

That’s according to an education expert, who claimed it was one of the reasons for the delay in this year’s Leaving Cert results being released.

It comes after an announcement last week that the results would be issued to students on Friday, September 2nd.

Guidance Counsellor Brian Mooney says the cultures around availability to correct exams are changing:

“The system has always been the teachers, traditionally and I did it in my own youth, corrected scripts. It was part of becoming better if your somebody teaching. It’s been a tough numbers of years with Covid, and people just they want to do other things with their Summer, so it’s going to be a problem.”
