Simon Coveney due to meet Stormont parties today

The Foreign Affairs Minister is holding talks with Stormont parties in Belfast today.

Simon Coveney is meeting the UUP, Sinn Fein, the SDLP, and Alliance – but not the DUP because its leader Jeffrey Donaldson is in London.

The party is still boycotting power-sharing over the Northern Ireland protocol, which is now a step closer to being partially dismantled by Westminster.

Minister Coveney says he’s focused on finding a way to get the assembly back up and running:

“Certainly I’m here to listen and to work in partnership with all the political parties in Northern Ireland, to see how we can advance those objectives and then after election, people expect politicians to be working for them. They expect a parliament to function and they expect an executive in Northern Ireland to make decisions at a time when an awful lot of families are under a lot of pressure.”
