Sinn Féin leader comments on British Government altering the NI Protocol

The leader of Sinn Féin says the British Government will ‘undoubtedly’ break international law by altering the Nothern Ireland Protocol.

Conservative Ministers are due to present more details tomorrow but media reports suggest that it will scrap all customs checks.

Britain has been threatening for months to tear up the Brexit-enforced agreement between it and the EU.

Mary Lou McDonald says the EU is willing to discuss and rectify issues at the negotiation table but the UK has shown no interest:

“There are mechanisms through which that can happen, there is a willing ear and there is a willingness to engage by the European Commission, but the British government has refused to engage. They have not been constructive and have sought a destructive path and is now proposing to introduce legislation that will undoubtedly breach international law.”
