Sinn Fein motion on emergency budget defeated
A Sinn Féin motion for an emergency budget was unsuccessful in the Dáil last night.
It called for €1.3bn in new funds to be spent on the cost-of-living crisis.
The government opposed the motion, but promised a comprehensive package in October’s Budget.
Sinn Féin TD Darren O’Rourke says his party will continue to call for earlier action.
“We believe it to be the case that it will become increasingly apparent as the weeks pass that the government will need to intervene.
“Our concern at this stage is that we’re a couple of weeks away from the recess in the Dail, and that Government ministers will take their holidays and come back in a couple of months time when matters will be significantly worse.”
