Stop and search results in increase in knife seizures
Gardai say that a focus on “stop and search” has resulted in an increase in the number of knives seized in Cork city.
New figures from the Department of Justice show that seizures of knives in Cork City have trebled between 2015 and 2020.
There were 172 knives were seized last year, up from 66 in 2016.
In total 557 knives were seized in Cork City in the five year period between 2016 and 2020, with seized in north Cork North and 67 in Cork West
