Support for the Social Democrats has more than doubled in a new poll published today.

Meanwhile Sinn Fein has seen a drop – while support for the coalition Government remains unchanged.

Social Democrats support has grown by five points, rising to 9% following the election of leader Holly Cairns.

It’s the party’s highest ever show of support.

Leading the surge…. Ms Cairns describes herself, ‘as part of the first generation to be worse off than their parents’, tapping into growing anger at the housing crisis – which was a priority for 55% of voters polled.

The results published in the Sunday Independent today also found that Sinn Fein has fallen 2 points to 2.9% per cent

With Fine Gael and Fianna Fail each losing and gaining ONE point, coalition support overall remains the same with the Greens unchanged.
