Swing By The Lee Outdoor Concert Back this weekend
Pack a blanket, deck chair and picnic, Swing by the Lee concert festival featuring a host of Cork talent returns live, for outdoor concerts at Fitzgeralds Park on May 29th and August 13th.
Swing by the Lee music festival returns to Cork city audiences this year. Artists such as Laoise Leahy, The Songstress, The Loungeman, to name a few, join the packed line-up for the hugely popular concert, previously called Swing in the Park. This year, the acts will return to the glorious Pavillion stage at Fitzgeralds Park, for a series of live, outdoor concerts.
Curated by the Songstress, Marguerite O Connor, of Starlight Entertainment, the concerts see a return of the ever popular ‘Swing in the Park’ shows, with over 30 performers including The Songstress, Laoise Leahy, The Loungeman, Fiona Kennedy, and new bands The Swing Bandits and The Franklins, and many more perform hit songs from the swing, jazz, pop and soul era. With two shows lined up for Fitzgeralds’ Park, this year, Dance Fitness classes will also feature, and a host of other shows to suit all the family, with dates and venues will be announced in the coming weeks.
Marguerite is delighted to be able to host the shows once again in the City and County areas, and says that the music festival has focused on including something for everyone. “Whether you like jazz or swing, original music, or musical theatre, we have shows for all. We’ve focused on bringing shows that will entertain all the family, in a very relaxed space, for people to be able to enjoy the return of live music. We were thrilled to be able to bring hit shows to Fota as part of Swing by the Lee even amidst the pandemic, but it has been fantastic to be able to have musicians and performers back together for these shows which are always so special. We’ve thankfully kept music alive through online shows since lockdown but to be able to do this in a safe, outdoor space, to audiences who have missed going to these shows, is very exciting”. This is the first in a series of shows by Starlight Entertainment, the creators of the exclusive Starlight Sing along shows which have been a huge hit with Cork and national audiences.
As always, Swing by the Lee aims to showcase different acts each year, and opening the festival this year is one of the most accomplished and in-demand singers on the Irish jazz and pop scenes, Laoise Leahy, whom has performed and recorded with the likes of Bon Iver, Gilbert O’ Sullivan,Damon Albarn, Damien Rice, Brian Deady, Efterklang, Mary Coughlan, Jack O’ Rourke and many others. This show commences at 1pm, with a full concert at 230pm full with performers and full live bands, bringing all the classic hits for all to enjoy.
Tickets for May 29th are completely free, and the concerts are suited to all the family.
