Taliban celebrates departure of US troops
The Taliban have fired guns into the air to celebrate as the final US troops left Afghanistan.
It marks the end of a 20-year war in the country, which saw more than 2-thousand 400 Americans die, as well as tens of thousands of Afghans.
A Taliban spokesman said the new regime wants to have good relations with the US and the rest of the world.
Journalist Nabih Bulos from the LA Times is in Kabul and says it’s unclear if the Taliban will return to their old ways.
“These are essential questions – the fact of the matter is we don’t know.
“We’re still waiting to see how the Taliban will act in the coming days, whether they’ll be open with local media etc.
“Now it’s unclear what’s going to happen with coverage in the future.
“We’re still waiting to see how open the Taliban will be to having themselves criticised and scrutinised.”
