Tanaiste Believes Possible To Get Through Winter Without Introducing Further Restrictions
The Tanáiste believes it is possible to get through the winter without introducing further restrictions.
The government is anticipating daily case numbers of Covid-19 could reach over 4,000 in the coming days.
However, the HSE says the vaccine rollout means the situation is different now compared to January, when case numbers peaked.
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar says while restrictions can’t be ruled out, they not inevitable:
“The vaccine wall is holding. Last night there were 436 people in hospital with Covid. Bear in mind we have 800 more beds than we had before the pandemic. And 90 in ICU. That’s about the same as it was last week and two weeks ago, so relatively stable in terms of the impact on our hospitals and that’s what’s crucial. It’s important that we don’t fixate on case numbers, and particularly not on daily case numbers because they tend to bounce around.”
