Tánaiste Says Increase In Minimum Wage In Budget
The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says there will be an increase in the minimum wage in the budget.
He’s also said he believes tax should take account of rising wages.
That would mean the point at which someone begins to pay the higher rate of tax, would go up.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe also believes that it’s an important measure:
“I would make the point, as I think the Tánaiste did, that what we are trying to do here, is keep as much of the wage growth that workers may gain by being able to go back to work or stay in a job, trying to protect as much of that as we can from an increased level of taxation, that would just be caused by the wages going through personal tax brackets.”
