Taoiseach called on to stop nursing home closures

There’s a call on the Taoiseach to ‘stem the tide of closures’ in nursing homes.

Operators across the country have written to Micheál Martin calling for more funding to tackle the cost crisis.

17 nursing homes have closed this year, due to a 73% differential in spend between a HSE nursing home resident and one in a private nursing home.

Nursing Homes Ireland Chief Executive, Tadhg Daly says they aren’t getting enough money to meet rising costs:

“The costs are really rising exponentially. We’ve seen over the last number of years where costs have risen by something of the order of 25% whereas the annual or weekly fee rather, is rising by something of the order 11 11%. So what we’re finding now is that not only are the viability of many nail salons has been threatened with the 17 closures, and many more, are under the same threat of closure.”
