Taoiseach confirms increase in the State pension in the budget

The Taoiseach has confirmed there will be an increase in the State pension in the budget.
But Leo Varadkar says he doesn’t know how much the weekly payment will go up by.
It’s the first major promise made by one of the Government parties with the budget still five months away.
But the Taoiseach committed to the move in the Dáil:
“I assure you there will be a further increase in the weekly pension and that will be in the budget. The exact amount has not been decided yet that will have to be discussed between now and October and will have to be seen in the round of other things we want to do as a Government have a certainty there will be further pension increase.”
